NAS, school district forge new leaders through Leading for Learning program

NAS contributes to Leading for Learning

North American Stainless is known for forging steel. Now in collaboration with the Carroll County School District, NAS is forging new school leaders.

“Thanks to NAS, we are creating a new school leadership program in our district,” said Superintendent Danny Osborne. “Starting this spring, Carroll County School District employees will have the opportunity to enter a program that will culminate in administrator certifications from the University of Louisville.”

The Leading for Learning program begins with four Saturday Seminars designed to convey the district’s mission and vision to potential participants. Individuals who complete the Saturday Seminars will be able to apply for competitive scholarships to a formal leadership graduate program through UofL.

“The University of Louisville has been incredible in planning this,” Osborne said. “Thanks to their flexibility and help, we are going to be able to offer this administrator program in a blended model, meaning that UofL professors are going to be able to conduct classes on our campus so that our folks do not have to travel.”

NAS is contributing $36,000 to the program over the course of two years. These funds will be used to fund competitive scholarships to help offset the cost of tuition. Partnering with the University of Louisville’s College of Education and Human Development, classes will be held in Carroll County through a blended learning environment with both face-to-face meetings as well as online work.

“NAS is pleased to be a part of equipping the future leaders of Carroll County Schools with the necessary skills to make a difference,” said Todd Mitchell, Assistant Vice President of Administration and Procurement for North American Stainless.

NAS is the largest, fully-integrated stainless-steel producer in the United States. NAS’s

state-of-the-art Carroll County production facility offers the full range of stainless flat and long products with competitive delivery times. NAS is a member of the Acerinox Group, one of the world’s largest stainless-steel producers.

“NAS really does value people,” Osborne said. “People are what make a school district, a steel mill, and a community work. We are so thankful to NAS and excited about the future in our school district and in our community. It’s partners like NAS that make our community great.”

The Carroll County School District is a public school system that operates within the geographic boundaries of Carroll County, Kentucky. The district serves around 1,900 students K-12.
